About

We are a small farmstead on 11 acres in Chelsea, Michigan. Our name comes from the mountain ash tree, or Rowan, that grows near our house. Rowans are known as protectors, as well as 'threshold' trees; a threshold between worlds, between times, and between places. We feel that we sit at a precipice, when it is imperative that we take great care of our flora and fauna, of our community, and of this land we call home. Our growing farmstead includes meadows, pine groves, a small wetland, honeybee hives, a flock of chickens, a duck, a goose, cut flower garden with high tunnel, and a kitchen garden.

Flowers

We grow a variety of annuals, perennials and woody shrubs for cut flowers and forage for pollinators. Our land is tended conciously and gently by minimizing our plastic use, having no-till beds, sowing cover crops, and using biodynamic farming practices. Through biodynamics, we honor the farm organism as an individuality, consider the complexity of the ecosystem, and aim to give back more than we recieve.

The small scale of our annual cutting garden --less than 1/8 of an acre-- allows us to weed and cultivate it by hand, while perennials and shrubs are integrated into the farm landscape. Our diverse plantings provide habitat for many beneficial insects, and we do not apply any pesticides or herbicides, opting to support nature's way of finding balance.

Many plants and seeds have followed us from our previous homes, or were lovingly shared with us by friends and family. Each flower feels like a gift -- for its pollen and nectar, for the seeds that come from it, for its stunning beauty, and for the smile it brings to those who receive it. We believe deeply in nurturing this creation and sharing of beauty within our community.

You can find our bouquets at Agricole Farm Stop in Chelsea, where we deliver regularly on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.
